Americanism

Americanism

The ambition and goal of the Americanism Program is to quicken the spirit of American patriotism and to stimulate an awareness — a genuine feeling of pride and respect toward patriotism — so that we as Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will become constant reminders to the people of our Nation that America truly means freedom and that Elks Care and Elks Share.

Americanism in the Community

Littleton Elks 1650 supports local law enforcement, public safety personnel, and members of the military community. In 2023, the Americanism Committee served 150+ meals to several local fire and police stations.

Americanism in the Classroom

The Americanism Committee works on building relationships with students and schools to increase patriotism within our youth and school system. We have an annual Americanism Essay Contest, volunteering opportunities, raising and retreating flags at schools, and teaching students proper flag etiquette.

The Americanism Essay Contest is a program of the Elks' Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee. Geared towards students in 5th through 8th grades, the Americanism Essay Contest promotes patriotism among young people. Learn more about rules, application, and awards here.

Founded in 1995, The Dictionary Project promotes literacy to children in third-grade as they transition from learning how to read to identify and use information.

Nationwide the Elks have donated more than 1.2 million dictionaries to third-grade students and their teachers as sponsors of The Dictionary Project over the last 6 years. There are 600 lodges that actively participate in the program, including Littleton Lodge #1650. Learn more about The Dictionary Project.
