Littleton Lodge #1650 Supports Local Homeless Veteran

On Saturday August 20th, volunteers and members of Littleton Lodge #1650 hosted a BBQ for 150 low income and homeless families in the local community.

During the event, it was brought to the attention of current ER Jason Gonzales and PER Bob Keyser that there was a veteran in attendance. Break Bread Director, Stephanie, asked if Jason and Bob would like to speak with him.

“The obvious answer was ‘of course we would’, said Bob. “During our conversation with John, we discovered he was a Vietnam Navy Veteran who served from 1964 to 1968 and unfortunately, he was living in his car.”

Bob, along with Littleton Lodge, works closely with the HUD-VASH Housing Team identifying homeless veterans, and reached out to see if there was something they could offer.

“We are pleased to say John was placed into temporary transition housing and is working towards permanent residence,” Bob said.

With so many programs available in the ELKs organization, it is rewarding to find individual success stories made possible when our volunteer efforts and offerings overlap. Thanks go out to all who helped in achieving this success story for another veteran!
