Littleton Elks Americanism Committee Delivers Dictionaries to 3rd Grade Students
LITTLETON, October 13, 2023 – The Americanism Committee organized a donation of 55 dictionaries to third grade students at Columbine Hills Elementary School. Americanism Chair Kim Garcia and committee members Teri Shelgren and Christine Suess made the delivery, along with the help of Principal Christa Wilson.
“The teachers were extremely appreciative and the students were incredibly excited,” Kim Garcia said. “One teacher stated her class had already decided they would come up with one word per week for all students to look up and discuss.”
The third grade students were shown how to use the dictionary and where to put their names. The dictionaries also included weights and measures, metric conversions, Roman Numerals, words for large numbers, American Sign Language, Braille, a Periodic Table of Elements, multiplication tables, a prefix table, and a map of the United States of America.

About the Americanism Committee: The ambition and goal of the Americanism Program is to quicken the spirit of American patriotism and to stimulate an awareness — a genuine feeling of pride and respect toward patriotism — so that we as Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will become constant reminders to the people of our Nation that America truly means freedom and that Elks Care and Elks Share. The Americanism Committee works on building relationships with students and schools to increase patriotism within our youth and school system. We have an annual essay contest, volunteering opportunities, raising and retreating flags at schools, and teaching students proper flag etiquette.
